Help me give my students new book bins to hold their books they pick from the library, a class set of flashlights so we can do flashlight Friday and, a magazine subscription.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Reading is very important in first grade. It is where students learn to read and hopefully begin to love to read! We have reading spots, diverse books and ipads where students can read books we don't have in our classroom.
One thing we are missing is flashlights, students would love to read on Fridays with a flashlight.
Any new and interesting way I can get them to read is the best because the more they read the more they will like it and learn to love it!
My Project
This project is to give my students three things that would help with their reading.
Flashlight Friday: This is when students get with a partner and read their book with flashlights.
I have been able to do this a few times with students but I have had to borrow flashlights because I don't have a class set. Students love this and it helps motivate them to read.
The second thing is a National Geographic Magazine Subscription, my students love reading the National Geographic books. We would use the magazines to learn new things each month! We could use these to find text features and also when we talk about Genres.
The last thing is for organization, in the past I have used Gallon bags for their books but they rip easily and, do not hold up all year.
