Our classroom provides a safe place for children to learn and explore. Roald Dahl said, "The more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves."
My all boys classroom is full of energized first graders ready to move and learn.
They have high energy levels and are never lacking when it comes to participation. Our day consists of learning through cooperative learning, teamwork, whole group and individual learning. I like to mix it up!
Our students are diverse and come from many backgrounds and ethnicities. All of our students participate in our school's free and reduced-price lunch program.
My Project
The possibility of acquiring a light table has been a dream for a long time for my classroom. I know that the students need this hands-on experience with manipulating light, exploring, and experimenting. We have a large need for materials to enrich our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education. I was graciously provided a light table for my classroom and am requesting light box manipulatives, magna tiles, dominos, and animal slides to fully utilize it. These materials will enhance their experiences with technology and engineering by allowing them to see and manipulate the materials in ways which they would not be able to without a light box. They will also help develop their visual and spacial reasoning skills. These materials will allow students to be active participants in their own STEM learning early which could inspire them to work in fascinating job fields (science, engineering, mathematics, and technology) in their adult lives.
STEM education is crucial to our learners of tomorrow.
We need our own children in America to become inspired to go into the job fields of engineering, technology, mathematics, and science. By getting students excited early about STEM it can only get better throughout the years. These light table materials are fun, hands-on, motivational, and our classroom would be very lucky to have a donation to help us fill our classroom with "light."
