We are a magnet school in Hartford, CT. Our focus is STEM education. It is our school mission “… to expose our students to 21st century skills that enable them to be confident problem solvers which will ensure their value to society. They will learn and contribute to learning within a safe, positive, respectful, and ready to learn environment.”
My classroom is a fifth grade self-contained classroom.
They vary in ability, background, and learning styles. It is this diverse population that makes everyday in my room a new adventure. I look forward to promoting lifelong learners through a positive and welcoming environment that encourages them to take risks while having fun! My students walk into the class knowing that they can rise to the challenges presented to them through hard work and perseverance.
My Project
A a STEM school, my students work a good portion of the day on their laptops. Headphones are a must!!!! We are in need of headphones, so that students will be able to use their computer in the classroom without distractions or distracting others. With a changing shift of how assessments and intervention programs are being given, these headphones will also help students to stay focused and achieve a higher level of success in both reading and math. With these headphones, students will also be able to deepen their understanding of science and math content, use educational programs to supplement their learning in class, and do internet research and exploration for class projects.
As a STEM school, we understand how technology is such an important tool in the classroom!
It can open students’ eyes to the outside world through images, videos, communication tools, and more! It is empowering for students as they take charge of their learning experiences. I am so excited to see my students motivated and engaged on a whole new level, through the use of technology! This project will absolutely make a difference in students' lives and help them achieve a higher level of success in the classroom.
