Kindergarten is the beginning foundation for their future in education. If I can get students in love with books, I have done my job! The learning center will provide students with the opportunity to read along with a story of their choosing at their level.
Our learning community is an amazing place to be.
My kiddo's come to me hungry for attention, learning and an environment that is exciting. Many students come to me wanting and craving literacy. So many of them do not have opportunities to literature outside of the classroom. Often we don't realize that books are a pleasure item, not a necessity. Most of my families provide what the kids need to survive, but can't give them the pleasure items like books. With this learning center, I could have four children at one time reading along at their level. This will allow my students to jump into the exciting world of stories. I want them to enjoy the stories they are reading, to explore the world outside of our four walls. To help them be actively engaged in their learning. A listening center will allow them to do this.
My Project
Each day we have time built into our schedule of independent learning centers. I would like one of our centers to be a reading center. This will give students the opportunity to read along with the Cd's while watching and reading the words come alive in their books. After they read a story, they will be expected to write a sentence or two about the book they just read, what did they like or not like, who was their favorite character, etc.
Giving the kids an opportunity to dive into books is such a magical gift to give them.
I want them to be able to get 'lost' into a book and find excitement and passion within the stories. Kindergarten is such an amazing time get kids excited about school and reading. Having a listening center allows students to be independent; giving them the freedom to explore and find books they are interested in reading.
