This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Pennsylvania, and all receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a typical, inner-city school. Most face serious obstacles before they even walk through the doors in the morning. Our goal is to make our school a safe and loving environment.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and different countries.
This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
All my kids want to do recently is read. I started a small classroom library with 30 books and we are easily over 200 now. The kids come in and ask for new books that they want to read. The truth is the more they read the better their vocabulary and comprehension get. That then transfers into all their classes and we see their grades go up. I am watching this happen daily and I’d love to provide them with a few more books to help out. It’s important that they stop seeing reading as work but something that can bring them enjoyment. Now that they are home I would love to give them books.
