My students are amazing, enthusiastic learners. They live in a diverse rural area with limited resources. I want to provide them with the skills they will need for their future careers so that they are set up for continued success throughout their lives. They deserve the opportunity to explore their creative potential through tinkering and making.
My students learn best through authentic and social learning activities.
They love to collaborate and problem-solve and are quite resilient and energetic. They love hands-on activities and challenges.
My Project
I am creating a makerspace area from scratch in our elementary school library. The area will include supplies and activities to encourage critical thinking and allow students to explore their creative energy through making and engineering.
Makerspaces allow students to practice their critical thinking skills and creativity.
Makerspaces do not require lots of fancy materials, many of the supplies needed will be collected from homes (toilet paper tubes, cardboard, etc.) But, I want to include additional supplies that will allow for more creativity and opportunity. Students will design, problem-solve, tinker, create, make, collaborate, and engineer through guided challenges.
