This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are incredibly smart and determined kids. Growing up in a community that has been marked by the hardships of poverty, many of my students continue to press forward.
They have all the wonderful tools to make a real difference in this community.
I want to give them the best that I can within my own classroom because they deserve it. They deserve to have the best resources in our small rural town. These children have incredible gifts to offer to the rest of the world.
My Project
"The Hate U Give" focuses on the power of speech, family, and the willingness to help a community in need. This book is about a young African American girl speaking out to make a difference. The events that take place in this book can be quite relatable to the children in my class.
"The Hate U Give" may be beneficial to improving their outlook on life.
I want to encourage my students to stand tall for what is right and to look for ways to shine in their hometown, despite the difficulties they face. It will be used during silent reading and literature circles.
