Help me give my students this instant camera and film to help students reach their 1,000 book challenge! As students finish reading books, their photo of them holding their book will be added to our #shelfie wall!
My 5th grade class is part of a small community within an urban setting. Our community of learners come from diverse backgrounds, mainly comprised of first or second generation immigrants. In our humanities class, we combine our love of reading with themes that teach us about the world around us.
Although our students come from many different neighborhoods and cultures, we come together as one learning community to grow and become leaders in our communities.
The love of reading within our community is part of what makes it so special. However, many of our families depend on our classroom library and school library to fill their daily reading diet.
My Project
The instant camera and film will be used to take photographs of each student with each book that they finish reading. Students are very excited to finish books and have their photo added to our #shelfie class display. Each student has a 30 book goal for the year, but between the students in both classes I teach, our community goal is to reach a 1,000 book goal to earn a special celebration of their choosing.
The #shelfie display will serve as motivation to finish books and complete the 1,000 book challenge, as well as provide book recommendations for other students.
We will use these photos of their books to study the genres that students are interested in and analyze our reading habits and patterns.
