This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I middle school in South Mississippi made up of approximately 700 students. The racial makeup of our school district is currently 87.84% African American, 7.75% White, 4.28% Hispanic, and 0.13% Asian. Additionally, all of the students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch.
With that said, I do not have a single student who is not bright, creative, and a joy to be around!
However, many are faced with personal challenges and difficulties. I want to give them every opportunity to be successful as I can. They truly are deserving of it!
My Project
Over the past 2 years I have built up my classroom library with titles spanning many genres. Students love checking out books and get very excited whenever I buy more books, especially if they are graphic novels. I am hoping that having more high-interest books (and magazines) to add to our classroom library, will continue to further their love of reading.
Additionally, my classroom does not have a document camera.
This would be an invaluable resource as I would be able to project a book or assignment up onto the whiteboard for students to see. A bonus would be that this would help to save paper!
