Help me give my students drones to study female drone engineers to inspire our girls to pursue STEM careers
My students come from various backgrounds. Their socioeconomic status varies. My students are curious learners. Our school is a Title I school with limited resources for our very special population of students. My students have intellectual disabilities but that does not stop them from trying their best and learning as much as they can. They are capable of understanding their surroundings, and they constantly want to explore their world. They enjoy learning and work so hard every single day. They are inspiring. We have been working side by side with typical developing students to build a collaborative learning environment that focuses on functional life skills and financial literacy.
Female engineers rarely get the same credit as their male counterparts. I would like to show our girls that not only can girls have careers in STEM but that there are famous female engineers that have been making a name for themselves in drone education and engineering. Women in drones has become a leader in STEM education focusing on drones and coding. Websites such as womeanddrones.com and Sheflies highlight the work of female engineers and their work with drone in STEM education.
I would like my students to study female engineers that have become successful for their work with coding with drones.
Imagine learning to take amazing photos from any angle. Having a drone with a camera would allow my students to do just that. Imagine learning the women are leading the way in successful drone coding and engineering. Being involved with the newest technology will give my students an opportunity that they have never had. Technology advancement is often associated with men. I want my students to see that there are many successful women, in what used to be a male dominated field. Having a quadcopter will be a great tool for my students with intellectual disabilities to work with their typical developing peers. This particular drone will engage my students and let them learn aerial photography skills. They will be able to share their photographs of their community with their peers and the community. Imagine being able to have students with differing abilities take photographs of school functions such as football games and graduation--from above! The students will be amazed at the technology, and this opportunity would be a very engaging way to learn a new skill. We are requesting two learning drones and one more advanced drone to inspire the next generation of females in STEM.
