My Students
A typical day in my classroom runs like the Polar Express. There are surprises, magic, and trust all rolling along on an unpredictable track. My students believe in their own magic for learning new things. It's the little things that make all the difference in a classroom.
My students live in a high-poverty neighborhood with more challenges than anyone could ever know.
These young children are faced with problems that are even too overwhelming for most adults to handle. The students come from all different backgrounds, but most come from homes where there are economic struggles. They desperately want to learn and just need the tools to do so.
My Project
This group of third grade students are unique in more ways than can be counted. Each one has a different learning style, personality, and often even more concerning, a different life story. Teaching in a lower socioeconomic area opens my eyes to many real and painful realities. While some of my students live ideal lives, others face deficiency in the essential needs to thrive.
These pillows, sheets and blankets will ensure that my students stay warm in the upcoming cold winter months.
Studies have shown that lack of sleep directly impacts students lives and create more struggles for them to overcome. Many of these students come to school tired and irritable, are unable to focus properly, and achieve lower grades. Hopefully by providing warm blankets to my students, I can help to ensure that they're given every opportunity to succeed.
