My Students

My students attend a K-8 charter school. The school has children from different backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses. Due to the pandemic, the whole school is doing remote learning. This has really been hard for students for numerous reasons.

These students are constantly impressing me, during this difficult situation, by continuing to come to live zoom sessions, turn in assignments and taking responsibility for their role in their education.

Oftentimes, students are at home without an adult during the day and they have the discipline and determination to do what they are supposed to be doing. Other students have younger siblings, who they help out. Many have had to take on more responsibilities in addition to being in charge of their schooling.

My Project

My students attend live zoom classes every day. Each zoom class is at least 30 minutes long. There is a 15 minute break between each class period. This means in a 75 minute span, they spend 60 minutes looking at a computer screen.

Between live zoom classes and assignments on the computer, my students spend several hours a day looking at a computer screen.

This can lead to eye strain, fatigue and migraines. My hope is to alleviate some of these problems, by providing my students with blue light blocking glasses.
