"I'm getting better at this!" This is a statement I often hear from my third grade students after they check their work at our Metacognition Center, a self assessment center aimed at increasing students' abilities to think about their own thinking. My students enjoy being actively engaged in their learning and delight in being able to move around the room during math learning centers.
My students live in a rural community where 58% of students receive free or reduced meals.
The high school my students will attend has an 88/22 percent graduation/dropout ratio. They come to my classroom eager to begin math class because they know that they will be challenged and their needs will be supported.
My Project
My students need the Bostitch Antimicrobial QuietSharp Glow Extra Heavy Duty Classroom Electric Pencil Sharpener in order to keep their pencils ready to practice and reinforce math skills. The colored pencils will be used for representing and modeling different parts of math problems and practicing computation fluency.
My students thrive on modeling math problems with freshly sharpened color and graphite pencils.
These supplies will assist them in visualizing their math problems. The Mr. Sketch markers will be used by me to create colorful anchor charts for the students to display math vocabulary and problem solving strategies. The ETA hand2mind Beginner Dual-Scale 12-inch Rulers will be used to reinforce fraction skills as well as create line plots.
