Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Aspirantes con Orgullo! My students are sixth graders at a bilingual charter school. Students receive education in both English and in Spanish, wherefore by the time they move onto high school, they will be fully bilingual. We are a Title I school, with 90% percent of our students coming from low income families.
Many of our students have not had the opportunity to really explore and flourish in the area of Math.
My goal as a Math teacher is to allow my students to make a meaningful connection to each topic I present to them through small groups, videos, presentations, stations, etc.
Seeing my students enjoy learning about the world around them and making connections brings me such joy and pleasure! To be able to provide my students with more supplies to further their love for learning and MATH, would mean a great deal.
My Project
Allowing students the resource of sharpening pencils will allow them the opportunity to complete their work.
Having the proper tools and resources is essential to student success in the classroom.
They will be able to have sharpened pencils to complete math problems while working collaboratively in their groups. It will also benefit them in their other content area classrooms where they will be able to write stories and practice their Spanish.
Being a bilingual school, students are taught to read and write in both Spanish and English. How can they accomplish this without sharpened pencils?
Helping students to "sharpen" their skills will help them succeed in life!
