This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach three seventh grade classes of English Language Arts. For the first time in years, I am teaching two general education classes and one inclusion class. I intend to make sure that every day counts and students leave with a new idea in their minds!

They live in an urban setting with a high poverty level.

I like to make sure that all their needs are met every day and provide them with various material that help immerse them in the topics studied.

My Project

Classroom management is one of the biggest aspects of a teacher's job, so every morning I sharpen pencils for my students and they trade their broken ones .

This management system has allowed for me to never have a pencil sharpener interrupt my lesson.

I have a pencil trading system going on in my classroom, you give me a broken pencil, I give you a sharpened one. I have used this method for a long time. Therefore I know that it was simply wear and tear that ended our three year old DonorsChoose pencil sharpener's career and not misuse by students.
