My students need 2 high quality electric pencil sharpeners, pencils, and erasers.

I teach at a small school, in a small town in Mississippi. At our school, teachers strive to achieve the very best for all the students. We are considered a High Poverty School with 93% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. This situation in no way takes away from the desires our students have to succeed!

My assistant and I spend much of the time sharpening pencils, when we really need to be spending that precious time working one on one with our students on their skills!

If we could receive 2 high quality industrial sharpeners, along with plenty of pencils and erasers, we could have all of our pencils sharpened before the children walk into the class, thus getting started immediately on their daily work instead of sharpening pencils all day.

If we are lucky enough to obtain a grant for this project, I feel that our students would benefit greatly because I know the importance of getting the day started with all the "housekeeping" chores out of the way. I can greet my eager students at the door with a smile on my face and say, "Are you ready to begin learning?", instead of being at the pencil sharpener for 20 minutes while the students are waiting for their 1st "hook" of the day!
