My students need 3 new pencil sharpeners that won't eat their pencils!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Snap! A student's hand flies up- his pencil tip broke! With over 300 students working 10 hours a day, 200 days a year, that's a lot of pencils to sharpen!
At KIPP: Tech Valley, our students work hard to be the best.
They're in school 10 hours each day, 200 days a year (including monthly Saturday school and days during the summer!). Approximately 75% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch services, making school supplies a luxury for most. To help support our students and take the weight off their families, all of our students' school supplies- uniforms, binders, notebooks, and pencils- are provided free of charge by the school. There's nothing more frustrating, though, than one of those pencils breaking right in the middle of an essay or a math problem. Our students strive to meet the high expectations set for them and they can't do that with dull and broken pencils!
To help support our students' sharp minds, they need sharp pencils! These 3 pencil sharpeners will replace our current pencil sharpeners that just chew up pencils and, instead, will allow KIPPsters to get right back to work with a freshly sharpened pencil. Additionally, these particular sharpeners have a lifetime warranty. If they ever stop working, we can get a free replacement! These sharpeners will support our program for years to come!!
Our students work so hard toward achieving their goal of getting to and through college each and every day.
These new pencil sharpeners will allow students to get back to work faster and will decrease the frustration of sharpening a broken pencil. Also, by knowing that they have the support of the greater community in addition to their KIPP Team and Family, our KIPPsters will continue to be motivated to work hard, be nice, and show that they are the best!
