I am so honored to teach at a Title I school in Texas. My students are incredible humans who love to learn and love being in school every day. They work hard each day and put forth their best effort. A majority of my students benefit directly from this amazing program. Though my students' home lives may not be ideal, they come to school eager to learn about the world and how to make it better. I absolutely love being with them, and I am so glad I chose a career where I can love them. However, my students are unable to have the experiences that other students are privileged to have.
My students are creative, spontaneous, and worthy.
They deserve the world, and I want to give it to them. My students are a diverse group who requires being taught with a variety of learning strategies and environments. The self-confidence that we are empowering our students with will ensure they are able to do anything they put their minds to.
My Project
Help me provide a safe cutting lab experience to my students. In Intro to Culinary we learn about knife safety. The kits will help my students build up their confidence with various cutting techniques through the use of a modeling dough and safe knives.
The kit will help us correct cutting technique of keeping fingers safe without the added worry of injuring themselves with a sharp knife, since they will begin with plastic knives and then build up to metal knives.
In our Techniques and Method unit students learn about proper knife handling and use and how to identify common types of knife cuts. It is so important that my students build confidence with their knife skills before we begin in the foods lab. Developing safe knife skills will be useful throughout the class and more importantly throughout their life. I am constantly teaching Food Safety to them, so these would benefit them greatly.
