This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are driven, brilliant kids with a strong capacity for leadership. They participate in work that is appealing and exciting to them just like any other middle school student. We all know at this age, most people are concerned with themselves and how their body is changing in many different ways. However, this group is filled with compassionate, justice-minded students that care deeply for one another. My students are the Needles in a haystack filled with unpleasant circumstances, and doubting spectators. At the same time, there is a huge community of great people that are willing to find those needles and place them where they can shine.
The majority of my students come from a background of low-income families.
All of them have great aspirations for the future and a very large capacity for communication. They concentrate well when their work is made relevant to them, and respond well to REAL individuals that aren't here for personal gain.
My Project
My students are in the middle of creating robots for a project we are using to introduce them to Marketing and Robotics. Most of my students are familiar and interested in making money, but not fully understanding the rewards that are available for someone who knows how to code and create a robot. With these Rewards, my students will be able to focus on the task at hand with the reward being seen and press toward that reward at the end of our project.
As we all know, presentation is a large part of a project.
The glue sticks and card stock will be tools that are used to help students decorate their working robots to look presentable for their judges.
