Help me give my students Digital Media tools to build a new program
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
"May we come back to your class?" I have had several students ask this question. I am in my 5th year at a school with a unique setting. My middle school students share their learning environment with high school students. I want to better prepare my students for life outside of our rural setting. Our students are in a Title I School with 100% free lunch. We are introducing them to a future filled with possibilities through various 21st-century career opportunities in digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and digital media (including photography and film.
These opportunities are introduced to them through clubs I sponsor, including a graphics design club, a digital media club, student News, Event photography, yearbook, and DECA.
We have the zeal, the excitement, and the willingness to learn. We don't have the resources. This has been the constant from my first year and the same in year 5. I, along with my students have been resourceful and have worked together without relevant resources, but in an effort to best prepare my kiddos, we need the right tools.
Time to put the old phones down and pick up the tools we need to be our very best. Our students have used old phones for a student-led newscast, creating short films, and taking photos at school events.
My students provide a service for the entire school.
We need a full digital media kit to continue to serve our school and best prepare students with industry tools. We need cameras, lighting, and a computer for editing.
Our school is near Pinewood Studios Georgia and this program will support a group of students to work in the film industry. This program will truly bless our kids.
