This amazing group of 5th graders warmed my heart in the 10 days I had with them prior to Hurricane Florence! They worked hard, they helped each other, and they were so eager to learn. We had a half day on September 11th, 2018 and haven't been together as a class since.
Robert Kennedy said, "Tragedy is a tool for the living to gain wisdom, not a guide by which to live." So many of these students have been out in the community bringing Gatorade to volunteers that have been gutting and mucking houses.
They have been raking yards where trees have fallen, and doing all they can to help, even if they are only kids.
Having been out of school for the past four weeks, I would like to give them some educational, yet enjoyable activities in which to engage, while having fun learning.
My Project
Our classroom has one-to-one iPads, which we use daily in so many creative ways. Adding in the Osmo technology components will help enhance what we already do in math and ELA, as well as, to add in more STEM activities to further deepen knowledge and understanding in an enriching and engaging manner.
With so many students who have been affected by Hurricane Florence here in New Bern, Osmo activities will definitely help get them back on track and excited about learning!
During math stations, students can interact with various math activities with Pizza Co. and Numbers Game. ELA will be engaging with reading tiles. STEM activities will be readily available with coding activities.
Please consider helping my 5th graders get back on track after 4 weeks out of school due to Hurricane Florence! You can make a difference in the lives of these 22 students, both emotionally and educationally.
