My Students

I teach both sections of second grade in my building. Our school serves a diverse population of students. I have approximately 7 nationalities in my classroom. We serve diverse socioeconomic populations. Our school is Title funded, One of my main objectives is for my readers to become more proficient. I teach the language arts portion of the school day.

My readers range from emergent to fluent readers.

Family backgrounds provide varied reading opportunities at home. Shared reading experiences are something I would like to encourage.

My Project

I want my students to experience the joy of a shared reading experience. I want them each to have their very own copy of the book Sarah, Plain and Tall to keep forever.

This book will be used for a read aloud in our classroom.

We will be focusing on figurative language which is so beautifully displayed in Patricia's writing. We will study similes, metaphors, personification and new vocabulary.

Historical fiction is a new genre for many of my students. This experience will also have a positive impact on student writing. It will serve as a mentor text for students.
