My students need book sets to read together for book clubs. Our new curriculum requires 5 students to read the same book so that they can discuss the topics from whole group lessons in their own books.
My 5th graders are part of a growing school with grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Many of my students come from homes where multiple languages are spoken and English is usually the second language.
My school strives to help students set high standards for themselves and reach them by providing the help they need.
We believe that all of our students have the potential for success, we just need to figure out what we can do to help them get there.
My Project
Many of my students only access to literature is in my classroom, because of this I want to make sure the experiences they have with literature is worthwhile. I chose a number of books that I feel my students will learn and grow from after reading.
I have chosen these books, both fiction and nonfiction, to allow my students to hear stories of all types, to experience the world, all the good and bad that comes with it, though books they can read with their peers.
This will allow them to discuss all the excitement and sadness with their friends and grow as readers as they do so.
