Mrs. Carpenter from Quitman GA is requesting a classroom visitor through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need and deserve the best chance to be successful in life. This success is dependent upon their ability to read and write.

Our elementary school houses a diverse community of approximately 600 students with a wide range of backgrounds and parent income levels in grades K - 5. Our learners live in the county seat of Brooks, which is located in South Georgia. Based on the 2016 census data, the median income in the community was roughly $34,547, which is below the state average of $51,037.
The school district’s commitment and vision is that we “Pledge to Educate and Inspire Every Student”.
Our elementary students began participating in the Read with Malcolm challenges this year. Teachers and staff in our building strive daily to inspire all students to read and be successful in all academic areas.
One of the most effective ways to improve reading achievement of children is to increase their access to print. Based on the Encyclopedia on Early Childhood Development (2000), 8-12% of preschool children and 12% of children entering school have some form of language impairment, putting them at a significantly high risk of reading deficiencies and behavior disorders. The Brooks County School System has partnered with multiple agencies to support children reading at home and school. Our belief is that placing books in the hands and homes of students is critical to improving literacy.
With this in mind, Malcolm Mitchell, a current NFL player, will be able to visit our students to share his love and passion for reading and will put a book in every student's hand if we are successful in meeting our funding goal.
