My favorite time of day is when I get to read with my child. Sadly for many children this is not a frequent occurrence. In fact, many children do not even have a book that they can call their own! The high school students who make up the service club at our school want to change this!
When you drive down the street, you might see a large, aged high school building located in a large urban city.
From the outside it might look bleak, but take a glimpse inside and you would be amazed by the promise within. Our service club is made up of students who are leaders, students who work to see the solutions instead of dwelling on the problems. This club works to find ways to better the community that surrounds them. The students have organized a read aloud event at the nearby elementary school. They will be reading to classes of first graders. As they planned and talked about the event many of the students admitted that they had never had a book of their own and how could they possibly raise enough money to be able to let each child chose a book of their very own that they could keep and reread over and over. We need your help!
My Project
Your generous donation will allow us to purchase children's books that the service club students will read to and then gift to a local elementary school student. The books that they have selected are Dr. Seuss books because they felt that they would be interesting to the children and just might spark a lifelong love of reading! The students also selected some informational Cat in the Hat books, to provide the children with an exciting and fun way to learn about our world. In addition, they felt that giving each student a bookmark of their very own would be a great gift.
I know that this site is full of very important and meaningful projects.
I feel that this project is so important because it will not only benefit first grade students but will help to reinforce the importance of caring about and helping others to the students in the service club. The money that you donate might just provide a child with their very first book ever, but I can assure you it will provide both the child and the high school student with memories that will last forever!
