My students are incredible human beings with a thirst for knowledge. They come to school each day ready to learn, excited to make a contribution, and inquisitive about the world around them. Our classroom is a great community and we are always so encouraging of each other.
There is an amazing quote that I really think should be realized and contemplated more in all of our classroom settings: "Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation.” This quote is from John F Kennedy.
I think this quote is so important because it really makes us stop and think about all of the great gifts we're lucky enough to be born with and also the goals for the future that we've set for ourselves. My class is so hopeful when they think about their futures and have a realization that a lot of hard work is required to reach our goals.

My Project
I would love to use the novel Flora and Ulysses to teach during my reading group. It's a great story to help get reluctant readers engaged and more excited about reading. It's a funny story where students are introduced to dynamic characters, fun comic book style graphics, and an exciting plot.
I love when I can motivate struggling readers to embark on a new reading challenge.
