My students need sharp crayons! Our school supplies the 8 crayon box that includes the basic primary colors. This will help the wider variety of crayons I purchase to last longer!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a 1st grade ELD teacher at a Title 1 school, my students often lack some essential things necessary to learn and succeed. They crave knowledge, positive attention and lots of love! I am fortunate enough to be able to give them as much of these as I can, but can only do so much!
I recently overheard my student say "I really want a marker for Christmas"...A marker.
This broke my heart a 6 year old would hope to receive 1 marker for Christmas. (Needless to say, I made sure that Santa would give him more than just 1 marker for Christmas!)
I recently found out another student had become homeless. She mentioned that she may have to leave schools and said she would "beg and beg [her] mom" to let her stay. Because of the misfortune that recently fell on her family, I decided to pay her $2 needed for our upcoming field trip. When I let her know that her trip had been paid for, she nearly broke into tears and asked me who had paid for it. I did not give her a name, but she told me to make sure I told them "Thank you!".
My Project
Crayons are a part of our daily learning in 1st grade. Using crayons helps students to express their learning and keep them invested in their work. Seeing the excitement on my students faces when I put a new box of 8 crayons in their caddy's could make anyone smile. Their excitement to have endless sharp crayons will far exceed the new box of basic colored crayons. I can also not wait to see the excitement of the new classroom job that this will create "Crayon Sharpener". I am sure that this will be a very coveted job.
The bins that my students keep their current crayons and other supplies in are very used and need replacing!
Alphabet magnets and alphabet stamps will be used in during our word work time to help students become stronger in their ability to create words on their own.
Lastly, "Giraffes Can't Dance" will be a great read aloud for my students to remember to strive for the things they want and go for their dreams!
