Essential oil and diffuser help keep a calming environment. Zen garden helps students express what is going on, board games are a good way to help students open up, when students need to re-focus they will use fidget or sensory toys, and the sweeper is used to keep my classroom clean. All items would be something I would use with them. These materials on my list to have in my classroom to use in the social-emotional groups we have. I would also use these materials in my classroom when I work with students one on one. I have many students that are just having a bad day and they will come and see me. I will sit down with them and be a sounding board for all students in our district. Students will use my office when I am not there and it is a safe place to take some time for themself. In the past, they would of went home. I have found this to be very positive for our students. Any materials I have are available for any other counselors in the building and teachers to use as well.
