This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Are these our books? Do we get to take them home?"
My students were so excited this spring to have a physical book of their own to read for our third quarter unit; it made my heart smile!
It also made realize this feeling and statement should be a more regular part of my students' lives. In a digital world, it's refreshing to encounter young people that value books.
Students at my school are innovative, passionate, and eager to learn as much about this world as they possibly can. Books provide easy access to worlds outside of their own. In my classroom, I want to further cultivate their passion for knowledge and the written word. My students are curious and ready to devour literature; they just need a means by which to begin their journey as readers.
My goal is to consistently find ways to get books into the hands of my students.
My Project
This past school year, my students read Hamlet and encountered Shakespeare for the first time in their school experience. Their biggest stumbling block was understanding his complex language.
No Fear Shakespeare gives students the freedom to interpret Shakespeare's works in a meaningful and relatable way.
No Fear places Shakespeare's original text side by side with modern language, allowing students to see what Shakespeare intended and what his words could look like today. This also allows students to have a deeper understanding of the text. No Fear Shakespeare is especially helpful for my students who are not native English speakers.
All of my students will benefit from access to No Fear Shakespeare's Hamlet. This allows students to read and understand Shakespeare and not miss out on the beauty of his language. They will gain confidence as they conquer complex texts!
