Shading and Coloring for Observational Science Drawings
My students need these supplies to practice their observational drawing. To help integrate the lesson, I will be pairing with the students' science teachers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a large community-oriented home for a diverse group with a large immigration population. With our diverse population, my school prides themselves on being a strong PBIS center to help encourage the best learning environment.
My students brainstorm with their classmates as a way to understand how they could connect to and try different art.
The students become more engaged with the artist, art period and art style.
Students become excited to learn about the different artists and become artists themselves.
My Project
These materials are for my middle school students. They will be practicing blending and shading with both the compressed charcoal and woodless color pencils. Students will take their understanding of the value scale to create an observational drawing in three styles.
By pairing with the middle school science teachers, the subject of their observational drawing will be connected to their other classes.
The students will create the same scientific drawing three times. One in pencil, another in charcoal and a last in color.
The goal is to give students a better understanding of the scientific method and how the visual arts can enhance their learning.
