My Students

On a regular day, my classroom is filled with six classes of rambunctious young adolescents that I often refer to as "my kids." These kiddos fill the desks (sometimes in very awkward positions) each day with all the energy and emotion you would expect from middle-school-aged students. Some of them laugh while others are grumpy, but they all show up to be welcomed as my kids. My kids are learning who they are and who they want to be. They drive me crazy and keep me sane at the same time, and oftentimes they teach me more than I teach them. My students are my kids.

My Project

My classroom has bright fluorescent lights. While these lights do illuminate my classroom, they also project a glare on the whiteboard and contribute to headaches and light sensitivity issues. These ShadeOn light filters work by filtering out much of the harmful blue light produced by the fluorescent lights. This will allow the light to be evenly distributed across the spectrum. Filtering the light will minimize headaches and glare (especially for those of us who wear glasses).

Teaching and learning is hard enough without a headache!

Let's face it, when I have a headache I am not teaching at my best. When students have a headache they are not learning at their best. When I have a headache and a few of my students also have a headache at the same time, we are not working together at our best. Headaches can have many causes, but if I could eliminate one source of the problem it will have an enormous impact on all of us.

My students are amazing, resilient young learners. I am proud of all that they have accomplished and all that they do despite the stress they encounter. This is why I am grateful that you are considering my project. Thank you for your time!
