Most of my students have had little or no background in art-appreciating it, going to museums, or making it. The physical area although only an hour from a city is rural and not rich in diversity. All that said, these students' lives flourish and expand with possibilities through immersion in art and the creative process. Their perspectives broaden and they grow as they become what they are and all that they can be.
My Project
Teaching Ceramics In a remote or hybrid model setting will be challenging, but I have some amazing ideas that will work well with new ceramics students that are learning how to work with clay but also how to express themselves with it.
Several of the project themes I will use Underglaze which is a vibrant glaze that can be used on clay prior to firing (greenware) or in the bisque-state.
Since my students will be potentially working from home often I wanted them to be able to use something versatile with a lot of potential (these glazes can be mixed too!).
The Sgraffito technique uses Underglaze on greenware then the students carve into their work which allows the clay body color to show through and provide contrast-it's a no-fail and inspiring process for all that try it-no matter what the skill level.
