My students are hard-working creative thinkers that are always looking to learn through hands-on activities and lessons. The students have been eagerly working on constructing multiple projects that can be donated within our community.
This school year we have been tasked to sew costumes for our elementary school play, create dog toys for an animal shelter, and we partnered with our elementary students to teach them about the design process.
Our students were most excited to help first graders design monsters which they then drafted patterns for and created using their hand sewing skills. It was a great project where the first graders learned about a new career option, while the high school students learned how a picture can become a real product.
My students are eager to learn about constructing, sewing, sketching, and creating fashion-forward projects.
My Project
These machines will be used in our Fashion and Marketing course. Students will be sewing costumes for plays, individual fashion design projects, and community service projects such as pillowcases, lap blankets, and wheelchair bags.
Sewing offers students the ability to apply their creativity by using math, science, spatial awareness, communication, patience, and problem-solving.
Students will be setting individual project goals and developing a timeline that they must follow while creating their projects. The best feeling is watching the students gain a sense of pride and accomplishment when creating and designing.
