I am the Family Consumer Science teacher and FCCLA coordinator at a small, rural school. My students are eager to learn about careers. In my class I have future teachers, nurses, fashion designers, chefs, lawyers, managers, and bankers. My students learn skills such as sewing, cooking, money management, college prep, child development, and career prep.
My students are hard-workers that strive to do their best.
I want to do everything I can to provide them with quality experiences that will prepare them for their future careers.
My Project
My classroom sponsors a service project each year. Several of my students and co-workers have loved ones with Alzheimers. Recently when we visited a local nursing home, the students were able to interact with residents and noticed that they looked bored. Upon researching, we discovered FIDGET BLANKETS. I can not attach a picture of these blankets, but you really should look them up. They feature different interactive activities and textures such as: buckling buckles, putting items in and out of pockets, zippers, buttons, marble trails (the marble is sewn inside blanket), ribbons, etc.
We would love the opportunity to put our sewing skills to the test to create fidget blankets to distribute at local nursing homes as our service project this year.
So our project has a 2 in 1 benefit. Your donation will provide the materials necessary for the students to complete the blankets (batting, fabric for backing quilt tops, and thread), and your donation will then be passed on to residents at local nursing homes.
The students have worked all semester to create beautiful pieced tops. Currently, they are adding the fidget elements to the top. Once the fidget elements are added, we will be ready for the batting and fabric for the back.
Thank you for supporting our class and giving us the chance to help others, too!
