I currently teach kindergarten but my hope is to reach out to upper grade students. With my students this year, and my second grade students last year, I realized what a craving students at this school have to experiment and demonstrate their learning in practical ways.
The students at my school are kind and loving and have a passion for learning.
They pick up social and emotional skills quickly and are able to demonstrate them. All the students I have met have a dream for their future and are excited about their future possibilities.
My Project
Creativity and seeing your ideas come to life is inspiring and empowering. My goal is to create a club and teach third-fifth graders how to sew.
With these supplies, students will be able to learn how to hand sew and sew with a machine while feeling empowered by sewing their creation.
Students will be able to carry these skills with them for the rest of their lives. They will learn to appreciate how items are created and feel confident to fix their own clothing if it breaks. Most importantly they will be able to apply skills they are learning in the classroom. Students will realize that the adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing concepts are useful when measuring and cutting fabric. Students will also practice fine motor skills, perseverance, and problem solving skills.
I will start with teaching students basic hand sewing techniques and we will advance to getting to know the sewing machine and how to use it.
