Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are 2nd- 8th graders that have been accepted into the Gifted and Talented academy for our district.
Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch. My students crave a way to be creative. Some do it through math problems and some use too much glitter for my liking. Either way students want to be able to create something of their own.
The chores of the past that children used to hate doing such as sewing, cooking and building stuff with their hands are what my students yearn to do.
My Project
It would be great to expose all my students to different trades they might otherwise not know about. I am requesting an embroidery machine with the needed gadgets and lots of thread. The embroidery machines of today are integrated with computers and creativity. I would love to be able to teach my students how to design on the computer and transfer it to something real.
Students would also be preforming real life math problems by measuring thread and calculating how many stitches. What ever happened to students learning how to sew? We need to bring that back so students can have fun and learn practical skills.
Eventually I would like to make a Makerspace where students can create on their own under my supervision. Students would get a chance to learn trades they can apply in the future.
This project will give students an opportunity for students to experiment and find out about skills for professions they might not have known about.
It gives them hands on practice with tools of someones trade, maybe they can make it work with their future careers.
