I have the most amazing students at my school. I teach art to over 750 students a week! My students range from kindergartners to fifth graders. We are located in very small rural town. Many of my students come from low income families, our entire school receives free breakfast and lunch. But we don't let any of these hurdles slow us down! At our school site, we expect the best from our students, and they certainly give it to us.
My Project
My students have begun to learn the basics of sewing using yarn and donated burlap. I would love to continue their learning by creating a sewing center in the art room. We do not currently have any materials need for a sewing lesson.
Sewing is a basic life skill that everyone should know, so why not learn it in my art class?
We are asking for the funds to buy felt sheets, large eye needles, and thread. This along with pins, seam rippers, and magnetic wands are the most basic supplies we can build the program with. We also need a small storage cart to keep our materials organized.
I have plans to make stuffed monsters using these materials, so we are also requesting pom-poms, wiggly eyes, and tacky glue. The biggest expense will be the filling for these small plush monsters. I know my students would love to make their own plush monsters, and learn to sew too!
