Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are recently-arrived immigrants and refugees, coming from more than 26 nations and speaking over 30 languages. They come to us with all kinds of imaginable and entirely unimaginable experiences and needs.

The courage our students show in facing daily challenges of life here in the US, in an effort to forge a hopeful future for themselves and their families, is nothing short of inspiring.

They are resilient, fun, caring, and deserving of everything that we can creatively muster to provide for them.

My Project

This year, during post-session, students will have the opportunity to develop their creativity alongside their math skills! They will be designing and creating many different kinds of bags and useful item for their everyday. They will use design principles and geometry knowledge to solve problems and craft the bags to certain criteria. With the sewing machines they will have a hands-on experience in bringing their designs to life. We will have a showcase of our work, some of which will be for sale!

It is wonderful when students have a chance to see how high school learning applies to real life.
