Help bring back the art of sewing to middle school students! My students are eager to learn the art of sewing with sewing machines which will allow them to create clothes, gifts and give them a lifelong skill. Please help the students have more practice with a sewing machine.
My students are eager to learn the art of sewing during an enrichment period at the end of the day.
While budget cuts have hit the area hard, the school, staff and students strive to maintain an atmosphere that continues to provide growth opportunities for all the students. The Sew What Club takes place during a universal access period or PRIDE period that allows students time for extra help in core subject areas or an enrichment of their choice. The students are enjoying the opportunity to pick their own classes during this period when they are excelling in their core subjects. The sewing machines would allow the students to continue building skills that will last them a lifetime.
My Project
Sewing is a dying art that few schools are able to offer. With the addition on another sewing machine, the students will have the opportunity to have more time during the week to practice making different items including home decor items, clothing items and basic alterations and mending. These are skills that will serve them well during their entire lifetime.
As their teacher, I would like to be able to provide as many opportunities and skills my students that will be able to use once they are adults.
The skill of sewing is something that every person should know. It allows you to repair your own clothes and make basic alterations. I hope that this class could inspire one of my students to be the next great fashion designer.
