Help me give my students sewing supplies so they can continue to push their creativity. .

When most high school students are tearing out of the door after the last bell, the students in my program are meeting me in a classroom to spend the next couple of hours in my sewing club creating wearable art that showcases their individuality. Our high school is right in the the heart of Englewood, a Chicago community that is usually featured in the news for reasons related to crime and poverty, not for fine art or education. For many of our students, school is a safe space where they feel encouraged and supported while being challenged. And my after school program provides them additional space and resources to learn a skill that is both practical and creative.
My students amaze and inspire me every time we meet.
Whether they are seeing how many fabric and color combinations they can fit in one project, helping each other, critiquing each other's work, or asking me to demonstrate a technique for the 100th time, they remain committed to the 3 Ps (patience, precision, and practice) necessary to see their projects through from start to finish.
I currently run an after-school program that teaches students the fundamentals of sewing. Students spend 2 hours a week, working on creating their own projects.
My students have been able to show school pride and stand out at school with their custom made drawstring backpacks, binder covers, pencil pouches and scarves.
Your donations will help me get more sewing machines and thread. My students currently have to double up on machines which cuts their work time in half. I would love for them to be able to work individually on a machine.
I have been able to obtain supplies with the help of personal friends and my own funds. However, anyone who is into arts and crafts knows how expensive creativity can be and I would like to continue to run the program without having my students provide their own supplies and materials. Many families in this Chicago neighborhood face financial and other community struggles daily, and I wouldn't want financial hardship keeping any of my students from participating in this after-school program.
