My students need to get to work making poodle skirts for our upcoming performance of Bye Bye Birdie! Our donors were generous enough to provide the felt we needed, and we are ready to start sewing!!!

My Students

I have approximately 150 students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade participating in the school musical each year. They are dedicated, hard working, imaginative, and deserving of an excellent performing experience. Upon hearing that their costumes were destroyed as a result of a burst pipe, they immediately sprang into action without prompting, reaching out to parents, restaurants, and our own Student Leadership team at school, to see what they could accomplish in a short time frame. My students frequently hear that the internet/social media is a place where they can get into trouble. I would love to show them that it's also a place where people can accomplish amazing things when working together towards a common goal.

My Project

After we were fortunate enough to have donors supply us with bolts of felt for poodle skirts, we are looking forward to our next phase of working together to sew them.

We have chosen thread that is compatible with the Singer sewing machine provided by Donors Choose, and three inch wide black elastic that will help us make waist bands for each individual girl in our production.

The students are excited to see all of these materials begin to take shape in the form of costumes, and are thrilled to have the chance to see their work used in future productions.
