LHS is a Title I school situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In such a rural area, most students are only exposed to the art they see in school. I make it my mission to provide students with a well-rounded and thorough exploration of the theatrical process in their short time in my class. I serve nearly 75 students from diverse economic and social backgrounds on a daily basis. The high school theatre classroom provides a unique opportunity to teach students the fundamental basics of the art of theatre.
Theatre also focuses on many soft skills, such as collaboration, cooperation, teamwork and public speaking.
Students leave my class with an understanding of much more than stage directions and how to act.
My Project
My students are being offered a technical theatre class in coming semesters and need the appropriate supplies to bring their original designs to life. Students will learn basic life skills associated with sewing, from designing to drafting and fitting a pattern, to fully constructing the costume for the production.
In their prerequisite classes, students have learned how to dissect a script to create an original design and now they are ready to learn how to bring their designs to life.
They need sewing machines and the associated materials in order to build their original creations for our school theatre productions.
