My students need to learn to SEW COOL and have the necessary items needed to make this happen! The items included in this proposal are rotary cutting sets, fiber filling, braided elastic, cutting blades, thread organizer, bobbins and more.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a suburban neighborhood. The poverty within the school community allows 100% of our students to receive free breakfast and lunch. Our kiddos are culturally and racially diverse and come from many different, unique walks.
We have the most authentic, caring, inquisitive and funny students.
I love being able to teach and learn from these wonderful open minds and open hearts! They are beautiful, young people and it is my lifelong intention as a person and educator to give them the very best I am able.
My Project
Last year, I was granted two new, awesome sewing machines for my students. I was so excited about this as I want to teach my students basic sewing skills in small groups. Really nice, soft flannel was also donated to me as part of this dream.
Mending clothes, creating fidget flannels and cuddle toys were the three main purposes for my desire to get sewing available to Highland students.
I really believe students are capable and able. I also believe that when our hands create things we have more pride in them. Fidgets and cuddles are all the rage with many kids and I want to share with them that these items can be that much more special if made by their own hands.
I have been using my personal supplies from home, borrowing from family or using donations thus far in order to keep this project alive but these resources have been depleted and it is time to get my students what they need in order to continue the SEW Cool vision. After I get these supplies, and the table and chairs (not covered in this DonorsChoose) needed I will be able to fully launch this project.
