Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty, low-income area where students struggle daily with life in general. As their teacher, I work hard to help students close educational gaps and achieve to the best of their abilities. For many, school is their escape so I try my hardest to make our classroom a safe space where they feel they can come to get away from daily struggles.

My goal is to help students become more comfortable in our classroom, giving them the opportunity to focus their attention on school-related tasks instead of survival.

Having materials at school that allow students to access lessons in a meaningful way helps students engage and stay focused on lessons.

My Project

Living in Springfield, MA, where Dr. Seuss was born, our students will be exploring his life and works. To celebrate all the hard work students will be doing, we will be having families in on Dr. Seuss' birthday. Students will be writing stories, creating timelines and other projects too.

The materials listed in this project will help students turn our hallways into Seuss Land and decorate for their big day.

Students are excited to learn about his life and try to become authors similar to his style of writing during our process.

We also spent time this year studying the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle. Dr. Seuss' book 'The Lorax' is a wonderful connection to this learning. These materials will be used to make Truffula trees.
