Help me give my students easel pads, crayons, markers, and more, for a successful start to the school year - in 3,2,1!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I work in an elementary school that is not very diverse; the school population is predominantly African American, and there are more boys than girls. The school is located in an area with low-income housing projects where 100 percent of the population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. With that being said, I teach a group of students that are full of energy and are incredibly eager to learn! As with all students, as long as they know you care, they will work hard to make their teachers proud.
Though the students are used to seeing and hearing negative things in their environment, the schoolhouse is their haven.
Once inside the school, students work diligently to show off what they know. I love that when they are provided with the necessary tools, they can shut out their surroundings and problem solve as well as socialize with others throughout the day.
Imagine living in an impoverished area - now add COVID-19 to the scenario. My students work hard and deserve the best education ever. As such, I want to give them a great start to the school year. Many of my students' parents come from single-parent homes. Sadly, many of those who once worked are now unemployed. My goal as an educator is to set each of my students to be lifelong learners and productive citizens.
Help!
There is so much to be concerned with today's society - neither supplies for school nor food or shelter should be on any student's mind. Well, this is a concern for many of my scholars and the reason I need help. My students may not be financially wealthy, but they have hearts of gold and will work hard as long as they are provided with the necessary tools. Please help me to help them flourish. Having the essential material will start us off with a year full of promise I cannot wait to see the smiles on their faces, similar to those on Christmas when they unwrap the gift that they never thought they would receive. Since we will start off the school year virtually, teachers will need to have many visuals for the students to refer to as such, we will need a lot of chart paper and anchor charts so that students can refer back to what we are learning online.
In short, all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, deserve a quality education. Help me with easel pads that will be used for exemplar work and notes, so my students may refer to prior work. Basic essentials to some, like paper, pencils, pens, scissors, a pencil sharpener, and folders are luxury items to others. Again, I wholeheartedly thank you.
