This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need supplies and tools to help them access learning in different ways. I will be starting my first year as a teacher and want to make my classroom as inviting as possible. To do this I want to make sure I have supplies for my class to be able to engage in different math activities. I have worked hard this year in order to prepare myself for having my own classroom. I want these kids to walk into a classroom and feel taken care of. Part of this involves providing them with supplies.

The school I will be working in is a Title I school where 95% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

As a new teacher, I have not had the chance to build relationships with them yet. I did, however, have the opportunity to meet some students during my interview process. When I met them I knew that I wanted to work there. I see myself in a lot of them. They are caring and are eager to learn. They work together in such a collaborative way that I have not seen from kids this young.

My Project

A lot of these supplies are tools that will help me make the classroom fully equipped with resources and facilitate student learning. Things like Anchor chart paper, file organizers

and markers will help with setting up notes all over the class that students can reference at any time to maximize autonomy.

Other supplies are for student activities, such as clipboards for a gallery walk, exercise balls for my hyperactive kiddos, and a wagon for doing lessons outside the classroom. I want to make learning as engaging and interactive as possible. My hope is for all students to learn that math can be fun by the end of the year.
