Our classroom has numerous daily routines, but only three rules. They are: strive to do your personal best, be kind of heart, and never lose your sense of humor. All of these are challenging at times!
Our suburban school was once surrounded by pumpkin patches, but presently, thirty years later, the children live near a busy four-lane avenue.
The community has gone through transformations over the years. Many more families need free or reduced-priced lunch options. Families look to our school daily for resources to enhance their children's learning.
My fifth graders are inquisitive! They are question-askers who want to be listened to and understood. These ten year-old children set and strive to reach their academic goals as well as individual behavior goals. It is a pleasure to witness my students' pride in themselves and in their classmates.
My Project
"How many eggs have you earned? How many books have you read from the library?" These have become frequently asked questions in our classroom since taking part in the month-long trial of Reading Eggs. Music to my ears!
I wish to use this excitement and engagement as a springboard into the Comprehensive Study Island Program. The children will have access to Reading Eggs and so much more. Study Island will allow me to conference with my students, discuss their goals, and differentiate instruction to meet their specific needs in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Students will be provided with feedback continuously as they improve in core skill areas. Lessons may be self-paced, others teacher-led. Together, my students and I will be able to monitor progress, and choose ongoing, interactive activities.
Like adults, children like what they are good at!
