My Students
I teach 11-12 year old students, who come from all different types of backgrounds, in an urban middle school. I want to be able to provide these students with the necessary materials to begin the school year on the right foot. Many of my students would not be able to obtain these things without help.
My students are creative and enthusiastic while in the classroom.
They are strong-willed and passionate about many things, so organization is an important skill that we work on in the beginning of middle school. Starting off the year with these materials will introduce them to good organization habits. I'd like to help my students apply these habits so they can carry them with them in the future.
My Project
One of our focuses in sixth grade is working on key skills, such as organization. While my district provides workbooks for our students, they are not bound by more than staples. My goal for this project would be to fund a binder and notebook for each student. This would allow students to better maintain their workbooks by keeping them in the binders, with their notebooks serving as a place to expand on their work and express their thoughts through writing. The key supplies will be a stepping stone for helping the students form important habits for their own work to become independent learners. These supplies will help encourage student achievement through providing a space to track their learning and take notes on classroom content.
