My school is an urban, public school in Chicago that reflects the diversity of the neighborhood it serves. At our school there are a total of 37 languages spoken, and over 90% of our population is low-income. We celebrate diversity and build understanding through our unique and shared stories. We believe that every individual is a work of art who brings value to our community.
My special education students are kind, creative, and inquisitive learners who are eager to try new things, despite the hardships that they face outside of school.
These students come to school each day eager to connect with each other, and demonstrate an amazing work ethic to surpass their personal and academic goals. Though these challenges may impact their home life, we do our best to make sure it does not affect their life at school. This can be difficult with limited access to resources, which is why your help is so valued.
My Project
Our amazing 5th grade students in the blended special education inclusion classroom are hands-on and engaged learners. Our classroom thrives with rich discussions, friendly discourse, and engaging hands-on activities. One lesson that we quickly learned about home learning is that our students do not always have equitable access to the materials that are needed when school buildings are closed.
Your support on this project will help us provide basic classroom materials that will be delivered to student homes via an individualized kit for home learning.
Each student will receive the materials they need to be successful during home learning, including: pencils, pens, dry erase board, dry erase markers, highlighters, colored pencils, etc.
