My students need pirate party sets, costumes, caution tape, magnifying glasses and more to transform our classroom into a fun and engaging learning environment.
The future of the world is in my classroom today. One of the reasons I love teaching is that I get the chance to work with and influence the future leaders of our world. Every single day, I make it a point to remind my kids that they are leaders, champions, and world changers. I want my kids to know they are special, loved, and valued.
Currently, I have a group of eighteen seven- and eight-year-olds.
They are energetic, enthusiastic, and full of life! My classroom is very diverse with a wide range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students love learning, playing, and learning while playing.
My Project
When you think back on your time in elementary school, what moments stick out to you? Is it the time you took all those tests? Or perhaps all the times you were expected to sit quietly in your desk and listen? Probably not. But I guarantee that you can recall an exciting experience.
That is what I seek to create for my students - experiences and moments that make learning come alive.
I believe that true learning occurs when students are able to explore, move, create, and dream. One of my favorite ways to engage my students is by "transforming" our classroom into a new place with simple materials, such as decorations or costumes.
I would love to be able to take my students on a "pirate ship" where we go on a treasure hunt to look for geometric shapes. I will use the pirate costumes to take my students on a treasure hunt for knowledge. I would use the table clothes and party flags to decorate my classroom like a pirate ship. My students would love to learn inferring while "being detectives in a spy lab". I am going to use magnifying glasses and caution tape to bring my students to a spy lab. Simple materials can make an experience for students that they will never forget. Thank you for considering my project!
